An island named Candi during the 16th century whiles the Portugal rules. Late after the Portugal rule British take over the island in the 17th century and came to be known as Colio. Today the area is known as the culture square of Mumbai. The area is also considered as the hub of various art galleries, which makes this area as a natural destination for artist community.
