The area is a neighbourhood of Chembur and quite similar to the location. There is not much difference in the standard of living, population and amenities in both areas. Govandi too is being preferred as one of the primary location for construction of new residential towers and sky scrapers, thereby replacing the chawls in the place. Govandi has its own railway station in the harbour line of Mumbai Suburban Railway.
